Kurious

It’s about time for Kurious Jorge. His flow has been much missed since he released his first album, A Constipated Monkey, an underground classic in the great hip hop year of 1994. An MC with a complex, confident tongue, unafraid to be smart and get stupid, Kurious is uptown and PR/Cuba, slang and Spanish, a prep school dropout running the streets taking a dictionary with him, adding words and definitions as he goes along. He keeps company with Doom, Grimm, and Serch, and gets more inspiration from Beatnuts and Jungle Brothers.

On his new album, II (Amalgam Digital), he reminds us of the casually masterful style his peers admire. He’s a highly skilled shape-shifter on a track, assimilating its form into his voice, riding it with ease. And his thoughtful lyrics remember the women and children listening as well as the now grown lovers of hot intelligence. Kurious’s sound is for people who want some hope and respect as tight as their beats.
